A Poem by Soulla Christodoulou
It’s Earth Day but what does that mean?
We jump round and follow the busy bees
We gaze at the sunsets and blue sky
Carelessly watching rainy clouds floating by.
It’s Earth Day but what does that mean?
When we’re destroying the forests and all the trees
And the orangutans and gorillas no longer breathe
And the seas are strangled with plastic and dolphins aren’t free.
It’s Earth Day but what does that mean?
Do we stop and think, change what we do?
Do we stand up united and say enough is enough
Life for our beloved planet is too rough?
It’s Earth Day but what does that mean?
The flowers are wilting, the leaves are crumpled
Like a wish cast aside they fall and die
Yet not enough are loud enough saying, the end is nigh.
It’s Earth Day but what does that mean?
Polar bears nearly extinct, losing their icy homes
And elephants are disappearing, have nowhere to go
While tigers are growling and pleading leave us alone.
It’s Earth Day but what does that mean?
Let’s protect the pastures and mountains and valleys
The streams and skies and seas
All of the creatures big and all those as small as a pea
Let’s stand together and love planet earth as hard as can be.
Thank you for reading and Happy Earth day 2021!
With much love, Soulla xxx
