Translation by Maria Christodoulou
This week I am sharing a short excerpt from my novel The Summer Will Come in Greek.
Maria Christodoulou, a Teaching Assistant and a Greek Language Teacher of A Level Greek at the Hellenic School of Sheffield has been working on the translation since June 2020.
It’s a long process and working it around her full-time employment has taken up a lot of her spare time outside of the classroom.
I am delighted she took on the project. I was researching sources for over six months until a mutual acquaintance introduced us. The fact we both have the same surname seemed to feel lucky for me and after her excellent sample translation and a number of discussions we signed a contract to work together.
The project is a slow burn; I am able to read and write Greek but not to the level required to translate a whole book and so I am working with Maria on a collaborative basis and it’s working well. The book reads beautifully in Greek… it takes the story to a whole new level and I absolutely love it.
She is almost a third of the way through the translation.
Thank you for reading.
